Why do I need to visit my dentist before using these products?

Your dentist will advise if these products are suitable for you. Depending on the cause of the discolouration, your teeth may not respond to tooth whitening. There may also be pre-existing dental problems, such as tooth decay, which need to be addressed before whitening is carried out.

Can anyone use teeth whitening products?
Teeth whitening is not suitable for everyone and it is recommended that you consult with your local dentist before purchasing any teeth whitening products.

The whitening agents only act on natural teeth, so existing fillings, veneers and crowns will not change colour and may need to be replaced following tooth whitening. Some forms of discolouration, for example, staining caused by certain medications, illnesses and root treatments may not respond well. Your dentist will advise if this is the case and may suggest alternative treatments.

What is the difference between Hydrogen Peroxide and Carbamide Peroxide bleaching agents?
Both formations produce active Hydrogen Peroxide. 18% Carbamine Peroxide equates to approximately 6% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Are the products safe?
Our products are all dental-grade products approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration, so you can be assured that they are safe and of the highest quality.

What are the possible side effects?
Some users may experience gum irritation and tooth sensitivity. These effects are temporary and will resolve at the end of treatment. Follow the safe-use instructions in your whitening kit carefully. Do not use the products more often than instructed or use more than the recommended amount of whitening agent. If you are experiencing high levels of tooth sensitivity, contact your local dentist immediately.

What if I experience tooth sensitivity?
You can increase the time between applications (e.g. every second day) or use a toothpaste specially formulated for sensitive teeth. PolaSoothe Desensitising gel is specially formulated to reduce tooth sensitivity. If tooth sensitivity persists or increases consult with your local dentist.

Are whitening trays made by the dentist better?
Trays made by the dentist are custom made by a lab to fit your teeth. This ensures that your gums are well protected and that the whitening agent makes good contact with the teeth and does not leak out of the tray. The excellent fit also means that the tray is comfortable to wear. The trays are of high quality and will last longer so that they can be re-used for top-ups later.
